Drug and Alcohol Counseling

Angelo Demesa, a human services and drug and alcohol counseling major and member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, served in the United States Air Force for 16 years.

Demesa chose Delaware Tech for its human services program and the help it offers veterans to continue their education after serving in the military. His degree will allow him to become a counselor for veterans.

"My dream career is to become a therapist to help people during the difficult times in their lives," Demesa said.

Before enrolling at Delaware Tech, Demesa had to prepare himself mentally and motivate himself to return to college after so many years away. Since restarting his career as a student, however, Demesa has become more disciplined and excited about college.

Demesa's advice for other students is to "stay connected to class peers and utilize the College's resources to help with succeeding in more difficult courses."

One of his many memorable classes during his time at Delaware Tech was his Interviewing/Counseling course with instructor Silja Walter. "All of the skills that I learned from that class really helped me during my Directed Practice internship," Demesa said.

His plan following graduation from Delaware Tech is to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology.
